The Nuts and Bulbs of Richland Gardens
My name is Sean Siple and I love to play in the dirt.
I have been building gardens with friends in Nashville for over five years now. We farm using organic practices, employing cover crops, trap crops, companion planting and a heavy reliance on leaf mulch to increase yield and reduce weeds. We use no synthetic pesticides or fertilizers and foster habitat for desirable insects and other organisms.
We are an open-to-the-public, teaching, food-producing garden. Our newest site is set in the back yards of some very special Sylvan Park residents. Their property contains a large stretch of fertile flood-plane along Richland Creek. By all accounts, this incredible bottom land was historically farmed and provided ample food for the neighborhood and their friends. We hope to cultivate another half acre on this property in our first season.
In these fertile beds, as well as the 1/3 acre we farm at my home in Joelton, a handful of farmers, gardeners and outdoor enthusiasts grow food and flowers to bless the tables of West Nashville. We sell them when we can to families and chefs in our neighborhood in order to pay for the project and provide a modest income to our team of growers. Thank you for your interest.
